DatingDNA.com has one of the most popular dating applications at the app store. Their dating site is relatively low in traffic, but very smooth and functional which is why I think this site/app is one to watch. The site and iPhone or iPod Touch app is completely free, or you can pay for the “PLUS” app for $4.99.
The unique aspect of Dating DNA is every users receives a number (DNA number) which indicates dating preferences which is in turn used to match users. I think they’ve found a way to create a matching system that doesn’t feel so tired and played out. The app allows you to search, contact, and view other members based on their DNA, or just simply search by location. You WILL need to register on their website first to be able to use this app. The registration doesn’t take long, but is necessary.
I haven’t had much time to play with this app yet. My only concern with Dating DNA and their app is the low traffic they’re seeing. I cannot imagine that they can compete with some of the larger sites right now. I do believe as time progresses they’ll start picking up in traffic and membership simply because they have a better site and app than most. I’ll be reviewing Dating DNA soon to see how they stack up and if we should expect to see them around in the future.

I’ve actually noticed Dating DNA’s “Alexa” traffic going DOWN since their introduction of the iPhone app, BUT that’s only because Alexa doesn’t count people using the service via the app. What I have also noticed, is a lot more users, hundreds of new users EVERY DAY. So, don’t let their “web” traffic fool you, this site (app) is growing fast!
I’ve tried all the dating apps on the iPhone, and Dating DNA wins hands down all of them, AND it’s 100% free!

Dating DNA was started by Kevin Carmony, former CEO for Linspire (“Lindows”) desktop Linux operation. His experience with “community” (i.e. open source communities) is evident in how Dating DNA’s community works. He also has the financial where-with-all to make sure it continues to grow and improve. I’ve been impressed with how well their site and iPhone app work.
